Who am I?
I’m Dan Smart, a 33 year old website developer, based in Swansea, UK. I have worked in the software development industry for over 13 years, with experience in web development, mobile handset development, and mobile networks. My current focus is web development, working freelance with a number of clients, working both on design and implementation of websites and web applications, also bringing in my mobile industry experience to be able to offer insight into the mobile web and mobile apps. When I’m not developing websites and software, I am a keen runner, involved with mime performance group Innovo Physical Theatre, and also actively involved in my local church.

July 2009 – present – Freelance Web Developer
Functioning as a sole trader, available for all types of web development work.

2011
Acquisitions Daily – put together team that designed, specified, and developed a WordPress-based paid membership-based news site, with custom elements such as creating custom magazine PDF per user, daily customised news emails, and drag+drop sortable news stories in admin, plus developed mobile theme.
Ambassador Theatre Group – worked as part of small team developing the ATG tickets site. Key elements I worked on include two custom carousel sliders (containing video, overlays, custom animations, etc), and general UI enhancements.
Gentleman and a Van – working for Liveline, I made a WordPress (CMS) version of a static website, also adding in a blog.
Liveminds – working for Liveline, I created this WordPress site (including custom widgets), implementing Liveline’s design.
Epilepsy Action Children’s site – working for Hey Moscow, I created two WordPress network sites giving epilepsy information to children and young people, based on a Hey Moscow design. Includes a gallery allowing submission of images (with confirmation email to parents), tagged question and answer system, videos, events, news, and custom widgets.
Logan Tod – developed WordPress-based corporate website, with multiple custom templates, and custom client and partner post types. Later, added database registration to events calendar.
London Apprenticeships Company – working for Hey Moscow, I created WordPress Multisite system for college apprenticeships, with apprenticeships displayed on dynamic Google maps, multiple taxonomy autocomplete searching, online application system with backend application management system.
Rowan Chocolatier – designed & developed WordPress-based site, including online chocolate shop (WP-Ecommerce) system, plus wholesaler’s site.
Dreamfit Joinery – customised and set up site based on a template for a joinery/kitchen fitting business.
2010
Ffald-y-Brenin – designed and built Joomla based site for Christian retreat centre, incorporating VirtueMart shop, and using components such as ChronoForms component, events system (JEvents), newsletter functionality (AcaJoom).
Barking and Dagenham College – developed WordPress-based site, dynamically integrated with electronic course data, with elements such as autocomplete course search, online application, and custom post types for elements such as events, news, and careers.
www.reference-tree.com - lead developer of Reference Tree application platform (Jan 2010 – Sep 2010). Working on the CodeIgniter application framework and Doctrine ORM.
hft.thomson-reuters.com – developed media rich focus topic site for Thomson Reuters, based on WordPress, with extensive plugin and widget development.

www.energy-uk.org.uk – (replaced due to Energy UK organisational issues) developed Joomla-based site for energy organisation. Theme and components developed / customised.
2009
www.optasportsdata.com – (now inactive) created interim corporate website in WordPress, based on supplied graphic design, incorporating video playback and a custom jquery video selector.
www.software-dynamics.co.uk – site modifications (added data collection form, automatic file listing and download functionality, drop down menus, additional static pages).
Sept 2007 – July 2009 – Student at Bible College of Wales, Swansea
Took a two year career break to study for a Diploma in Theology with Ministry Studies.
July 2005 – Aug 2009 – Applications/UI Team, Motorola
Managed the Messaging application components for the Motorola Z8 handset from conception to launch, managing third party companies, and developing related components in Symbian / UIQ.
Sept 2003 – July 2005 – UI/Application team – Feature Phones, Sendo
Handled development of UI widget integration layer for Teleca Mobile Suite 2 (MS2) – for MMS, WAP browser, and Content Management System on embedded GSM mobile handsets. Also travelled to Singapore (May 2005) to train colleagues in MS2 and system
March 2001 – August 2003 – Games team, Sendo
Development of games for embedded GSM mobile handset, including 2-player SMS games – from conception through development to customisation for mobile operators.

Worked on Corporate Research Project investigating intelligent adhoc network algorithms, developed test application in MFC (Visual C++) to enable and development analysis of algorithms.
